Description of the Organization:
- is the Federal Republic of Germany's international broadcaster.
- has the legal mission to convey a comprehensive picture of life in Germany and to present and describe the German positions on important issues. An amendment includes a expansion of this mission.
- fulfils its mission with
- DW-RADIO in 30 languages,
- DW-TV in German, English and Spanish as well as programme slots and services in other languages – plus: GERMAN TV, the joint German-language programme of DW, ARD and ZDF, and with
- DW-WORLD.DE – the multilingual internet website.
- is comprised of a multinational team of roughly 1,500 employees from 60 countries.
- addresses, in particular, opinion leaders, decision-makers and people who speak and are learning German in other countries.
- distributes its programmes and services via a global satellite network, via partner stations and on the internet; its radio programmes are broadcast primarily via short-wave – now digital also – and via medium wave and FM in some cities and regions.
- runs the DW Academy housing the Deutsche Welle Training Centre (radio and television) as well as the journalistic training. In addition DW Academy offers a media-related intercultural communication course for German professionals sent overseas.
- is mandated by public law and funded by the federal government, i.e. by taxpayers.
- has been headquartered in Bonn since June 2003; while DW's television activities are located in Berlin.
